SynNovation Works, LLC

SynNovation Works is a consulting partnership dedicated to making human interactions in all manner of endeavors more valuable. We illuminate through innovative executive education how interactions between and among organizations and individuals impact the velocity and quality of outcomes in the real world. Specifically, we use the skills of high caliber collaboration as it pertains to accelerating the creation of value for companies, organizations and individuals. The partnership draws on the skills and interests of four organizational leaders with over a century of combined experience of using collaboration in general management, operations and organizational partnerships to generate success. Stephen Shields

StephenSteve is an accomplished business leader having managed within the functions of finance, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, sales & distribution as well as at a general manager and global business unit level. His strengths lie in strategy, integration, management and leader­ship development. He brings a wide variety of non-business interests to bear on organizational endeavors including travel, photography, flying and back­packing. His passion is exploring — whether that is a new busi­ness opportunity, a new idea, or problem solving difficult challenges. He brings people, imagination and rational thought together to create practical value and reveal breakthrough possibilities. He is dedicated to making a positive difference in every situation. Steve graduated from Oregon State University in civil engineering in 1979 after which he spent four years in construction management with the US Forest Service while earning his professional engineering license. Steve went on to obtain his MBA from the University of Washington in 1985, starting an 18 year career with Hewlett Packard Company after graduating. He resigned in 2003 to explore other opportunities. In addition to on-going strategic business consulting, Steve is a minority owner of AHA, a strategic marketing and communication firm in Vancouver, WA and President of the board for Columbia Land Trust. He is very active in supporting business development efforts through a variety of means, including working directly with start-up companies. Steve currently resides in Corvallis, Oregon, along with his wife Micky, of 37 years. He also has two adult children he is very proud of.

Tim Spofford

StephenTim is an experienced global business leader spending the past 4 years as Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain for Foxconn Electronics, a Global Fortune 50 company. Tim invested 33 years managing diverse teams around the world in Hewlett-Packard's printing, personal computer, and computer peripherals business retiring as a Vice President of Operations for HP's mobile products business. While Tim and his family have lived abroad and in many US locations he has supported his local communities contributing as: Member, Clark County Washington YWCA Board of Directors; President, Math, Science and Technology Magnet Advisory for Vancouver Public Schools; Guest Lecturer, Oregon State University, Clark College, Jiao Tong University; Host and Speaker, Shanghai 101- Doing business in China, MBA team visits in China from Columbia University and York University. Tim has a BA in Management and Organizational Leadership from George Fox University and an E-MBA from Jiao Tong University. Tim, and his wife of 36 years have two grown children. He enjoys backpacking, woodworking, playing golf and is currently restoring a 1920 Model T Ford.

Dave Young

DaveDave is a father of three daughters enjoying the years after a rewarding career in corporate life. He started the journey at Purdue University where he obtained his Mechanical Engineering degree followed by duty as an officer in the US Naval submarine service. His nuclear engineering experience led him to a seven year period with Westinghouse on the development team for a research reactor, including two years in Washington, DC in the Division of Reactor Research and Development at the Department of Energy. During this period he completed his MBA at the University of Washington. The journey then shifted to begin 23 years at Hewlett-Packard in department management positions including Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and a five year General Management role in the startup of a large factory in Ireland. Dave is now pursuing several small business opportunities, flying radio controlled airplanes, fishing and enjoying time with his wife of 48 years. He has a passion for continuous learning which has included welding, locksmithing and most recently the neurophysiology of the brain including its link to consciousness and emotion.

Boyd Lyon

BoydBoyd is a seasoned business leader with over two decades of management experience in Hewlett-Packard's printing, personal computer, and display technology businesses. Boyd brings a wealth of experience in finance, operations and business development across all phases of a firm's lifecycle, from startup and hyper-growth through competitive maturity. He has worked around the world, across functions and business boundaries, driving collaboration, innovation and performance...all in the midst of change, uncertainty and fierce competitive challenge. Boyd retired from HP as an Operations Vice President in 2005. He is currently engaged in volunteer work (Benton Hospice Service and Oregon State University) and as a founding partner in three ventures aimed at executive training (SynNovation Works), new product development (SynNovations) and technology commercialization (SynnOps). Boyd grew up in San Francisco; crewed on fishing boats up and down the west coast; and for three years worked with a Native community in Southeast Alaska to build tribal enterprises and manage reservation natural resources. He graduated with highest honors in Economics from the University of California and earned his MBA from the University of Washington.  Boyd resides in Corvallis, Oregon. He's a proud husband and father of two grown lads; he spends much of his free time these days playing drums, cavorting in the wilderness, and tending an unforgiving yard.
